Win32 Console Application
EYEdent-D runs in a Win32 Console Window, which is a textmode user-interface, similar to DOS, but with all the power of 32-bit Windows multi-tasking.

Completely multithreaded
Written for 32-bit Operating Systems like Win95 and WinNT, EYEdent-D is completely multithreaded and handles multiple requests simultaneously. This ensures that all requests are handled as soon as possible even if the traffic on the machine is high.

Auto detection of user name
EYEdent-D can automatically detect what user is currently logged in and reply with the correct user name to the requesting server.

Flood protection
A malicious user with an Ident Client can send many ident requests to a server at one time creating a big load of data, stealing bandwidth from your internet connection. The flood protection is configurable and can be disabled completely. EYEdent-D uses flood protection to make this impossible.
After receiving an ident request from a client, EYEdent-D stores the ip number of the client in memory. If the client makes a given number of connections in a given period of time, EYEdent-D will not answer any more requests from that ip, until the time period has expired. The flood protection can be configured and even disabled.

Logging
If a log file has been specified on the command-line, EYEdent-D will write date- and time-stamped log entries for events such as ident requests, flood detections, startup/shutdown, and errors along with what USERID and OS was used in the ident replies.

Reverse DNS-lookup
As an ip number doesn't tell you much about where the request came from, EYEdent-D performs reverse DNS-lookup on all ident requests. This is done after the request is completed, so there won't be a delay for the client doing the ident request. To minimize bandwidth usage, the DNS-lookup can be disabled. The results from the DNS-lookup are logged if logging is enabled.

Command-line configured
EYEdent-D reads all its settings from the command-line, and is easy to setup.

The command-line options are:

identd.exe

-o <OS> Changes the Operating System name in the ident reply.
-u <USERID> Changes your user name.
-l <LogFile> Specifies the path and filename of the logfile.
-fr <Flood Requests> Number of requests to reply to before blocking the ip number of the caller.
-fs <Seconds to block> If the number of requests within this time is greater than the number specified with '-fr', the ip is blocked.
-dns <0-off / 1-n> Turns on or off the reverse DNS lookup (turning it off makes operation a bit faster).

E.g.
identd.exe -o Win95 -u Joe -l c:\eyedent.log -dns 1 -fr 5 -fs 10

Requirements
To run EYEdent-D you need a machine running Windows95/98/NT. It will not run on Win32s.

Installation
Simply unzip EYEdentD.zip to a directory, e.g.
"C:\Program Files\EYEdent-D\" with a utility such as WinZip. Then create a new shortcut with the command-line options you want to use.
